Ep. 1: Phil Newton
PHIL NEWTON: Hailing from Jacksonville, Oregon, Broadway Phil and the Shouters have been rocking concerts and clubs since 1994. For over twenty years, the Shouters have had a mainstream appeal that continues to attract an ever-widening audience by drawing on their influence from Blues, R&B, Tex-Mex and Roots Rock. With their uncanny musical mastery, The Shouters are able to focus on dance grooves and smart lyrics in their original tunes and cover songs keeping crowds on their feet.
Broadway Phil Newton offers vocals that are raw and uninhibited which he marries with a mastery of the harp. Add the charismatic performances of the Shouters and you have a band that remains a hard driving mainstay of the independent music scene in Oregon, California and many other regions of the country. The Shouters recognize the blues as an important American Legacy and draw heavily on the soul and R&B of the 1950’s and 1960’s . . . . . and they like to smack a Delta Groove too. Broadway Phil and the Shouters have worked with a host of standout acts, including Huey Lewis & The News, Elvin Bishop, Dave Mason, Robben Ford, Paul Delay, Curtis Salgado, Roomful of Blues and many others and are still rolling strong into their third decade.
